聖經的第一句便是神說要有光，所以普遍認為上帝創造了光。

有了光，才有了萬物，從小生物課就教會我們，光合作用是維持生命的能量來源，地球上大部分的能量物質也是經過光合作用由太陽能轉化而來。

《創世紀》這一節的意思是最初造出來的土在水的深處跟水溶在一起，沒有版形狀，沒有牢固的權實體；深水上面沒有光，只有「神風」吹來吹去。整個句子出於和合本的《聖經·創世紀》。
